SUSHI RECIPE
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of sushi rice (600g), cooked and seasoned with rice vinegar
- 5 sheets of nori (seaweed sheets for sushi)
- 200 grams of fresh fish (such as salmon or tuna), thinly sliced
- 1 cucumber, cut into long thin sticks
- 1 carrot, cut into long thin sticks
- 1 avocado, thinly sliced
- Lettuce leaves (optional)
- Wasabi (optional)
- Gari (pickled ginger, optional)
Instructions:
1. Gather all the necessary tools and ingredients. You'll need a bamboo sushi rolling mat (makisu) to help with rolling the sushi.
2. Place a sheet of plastic wrap on top of the bamboo mat (makisu) and place a sheet of nori on top of the plastic wrap, ensuring that the nori's rough side is facing up.
3. Wet your hands slightly with water, then take about half a cup of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori, leaving about half an inch of nori uncovered at the top. This will help seal the roll.
4. Place the slices of fish, cucumber, carrot, avocado, and lettuce (if using) at the bottom of the nori that's been covered with rice.
5. Now, start rolling the sushi. Use the bamboo mat to assist you. Roll gently but make sure the sushi is compact and firm. Apply slight pressure as you roll. Ensure that the uncovered portion of nori sticks to the roll.
6. Once the sushi is rolled, use a sharp, slightly wet knife to cut the sushi into pieces about 1 inch in width.
7. Repeat this process with the remaining sheets of nori, rice, and other ingredients until everything is used up.
8. Serve the sushi with wasabi, pickled ginger (gari), and soy sauce on a sushi plate.
